The moment an infant arrives in this world, we start to judge him on the basis of his weight, color, length, features, cries and what not. It’s the beginning but there ain’t no end after that. After some months he’s judged on his fine and gross motor skills, then his learning skills, then his scores, then his income, then his marriage and what not. Being judgmental at any stage isn’t recommended but being judgmental about kids is sheer stupidity. How does it matter if a kid is shorter than another of his age? How does it matter if a child learns to say ‘mama’ six months after another child of his age? How does it matter if a child doesn’t dance as good another one of his age? How does it matter if a child doesn’t smile as often as another of his age? How does it matter if a child is not as fair as another one of his age? Mother nature hasn’t made two leaves of a tree same, which is the beauty of this world. I think we must take pride in the individuality of our kids and stop being judgmental about them. What do you say?
We tend to hurt the self esteem of our babies by comparing. It is like saying to a wife that you are moti than her friend. It would have been better by saying that you are moti. By comparing we belittle our babies, further their performance goes down. We as parents damage the esteem most. Same sentence uttered by someone else make least damage. Babies want to be best in the eyes of parents.
